The Office of the Senior Vice President for Planning, Physical Resources, and University Relations encompasses a number of offices at New Mexico State University. These include Architects, Facilities and Services, Fire Protection, ICT, Police, Real Estate, Safety, and University Communications. Also included under the Senior Vice President are the offices of Business Resources and Computer Resources.
Environmental Health and Safety Office
The Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) is responsible for facilitating University safety by implementing programs that serve all NMSU students, employees and clients. This includes preventing personal injury or death, reducing costs caused by inadequate safety procedures, and reducing environmental pollution. EHS also provides training, including defensive driving, hazardous materials, radiation safety, CPR, and First Aid.
Office of Facilities Operations and Utilities
The Office of Facilities Operations and Utilities (OFS) is responsible for facilities planning and maintenance at New Mexico State University. OFS provides a wide array of services to the campus, ranging from routine maintenance and custodial services to renovations and major construction projects. OFS shops include Electricians, Plumbers, HVAC, Carpenters, Painters, Construction, Mechanics, Engineering, Operations, Grounds, Material Services, Custodians, Projects, Heating Distribution, and the Central Utility Plant.
Facilities Planning and Construction
Facilities Planning and Construction is responsible for the planning and implementation of all major campus construction projects, as well as the planning and design of small departmental projects. In addition they provide contract management for all major construction projects, as well as interior design, campus maps, and building floor plans. Facilities Planning and Construction is also tasked with identifying and addressing all ADA issues related to the physical plant, as well as the campus master plan.
Facilities Space Management
The role of the Office of Facility Space Management (FSM) is to manage NMSU space assets. This includes establishing and enforcing space utilization standards, and ensuring efficient utilization of existing space and equitable allocation and reallocation based on departmental needs. FSM also provides data, analysis, and reports to all deans and vice presidents to enable effective use and management of their existing space.
Fire Department
The Fire Department provides fire protection services and intermediate level EMS services to the NMSU campus and community. The Fire Department also provides fire safety inspections and public education, including fire extinguisher training, hazmat, and confined space rescue. In addition, they provide mutual aid to other fire departments in the community, including the City of Las Cruces and Dona Ana County.
Information and Communication Technologies
The Office of Information and Communication Technologies is responsible for meeting the Administrative and Academic computing needs of the campus, as well as maintaining the campus network, telephone service, and and alarm systems. ICT supports the information processing needs of NMSU, in order to faciliate the organization and transfer of knowledge within the campus community.
Police Department
The NMSU Police Department strives to provide an environment free of crime to support the educational mission of the university. The NMSU Police Department is committed to the protection of the lives, rights, and property of all citizens; the vigorous apprehension of criminals; the creation of new and innovative programs; and the continual bridging of any communication gap between the public and law enforcement. The NMSU Police Department, its officers, and employees endeavor to be an active and constructive part of the community they serve.
The Office of Real Estate
The Real Estate Office is responsible for all real estate acquisitions, sales, leases, rights of way, rights of entry, and easements. In addition, the office conducts negotiations, provides competitive market analyses, and makes recommendation on real estate matters. The Real Estate Office serves as a clearinghouse and a repository for all NMSU real estate information, and is a liaison between the university and federal, state, and municipal governments, as well as with the private sector. The office also makes real estate policy recommendations, and handles all real estate transactions with the NMSU Board of Regents.
University Communications
University Communications is the primary point of contact for all public information about NMSU and it's campuses. University Communications includes publications, news, marketing, and photography, including the periodicals Page One and Aggie Panorama, as well as Hotline, a daily email of campus events and happenings.
